JIM ELDER KIDS CLINICS

Jim loved Traveler baseball, and he would be thrilled to see all the family activity at Dickey-Stephens Park and all the new fans that are being created there every night.

The Jim Elder Good Sport Fund sponsors three clinics each season at Dickey-Stephens Park.  Held before Sunday games,  kids are invited to come on the field and participate in batting, fielding, running and throwing drills with a few of the Travs players.  Each child gets a souvenir Jim Elder ball, a few tips, and a chance to dream of future greatness.

Travs Designate Jim Elder Good Sport Fund As Official Charity

Homeplate HeroesThe charity is named for Jim Elder, the late Travelers play-by-play announcer of more than 30 years. The Good Sport Fund annually awards scholarships and grants to journalism and broadcasting students in Arkansas universities for their junior and senior years. The Fund also supports many other local efforts to help deserving Arkansas students.

“We are so pleased to be working closely with the Travelers,” said Elder’s daughter Susan, one of Directors for the Jim Elder Good Sport Fund. “Jim’s long-time love affair with baseball and the Travs, in particular, makes this a natural fit. He was in his element at Ray Winder Field and would be deeply touched by the Travs’ involvement.”

Joining Ms. Elder on the Jim Elder Good Sport Fund Board of Directors is former Travs announcer Taylor Carr, former broadcast partner Brady Gadberry, long-time Little Rock journalist Harry King and former Razorback sharpshooter Rickey Medlock.
